Advanced Search Preferences Custom robots.txt, Custom Robots Header Tags for Blogger

This is one of the most advanced step taken by blogger. This was the only thing blogger was lacking when coming to SEO with wordpress. After blogger has introduced this new feature, Blogger is no where less compared with WordPress. Almost all the features are available in blogger now which are important for SEO like WordPress.

After blogger introduced this feature most of the people didn’t knew how to use this feature. In this article I will be explain you how to use this feature properly to perform your blogs well in search engines.

Search Preference’s Settings:
1. Enable Search Description:
By default the search description will be disabled, just enable it. After enabling this feature you can give search description/ meta description for each and every Post/Page in Blogger.

2. Custom Not Found Page:
Click here to design a custom 404 page for your blog.

3. Custom Redirects:
With this feature you can redirect links of one post to other. Lets say you have some article published on your blog and now its not available or deleted. It will lead to a 404 page. This will just waste the page rank of that particular post. Instead of this you can just redirect the link to other post which is available on your blog. This way you can save the page rank and improve the rankings of your blog.

4. Custom Robots.TXT
Robots.txt says search engines what content or what kind of articles to index and what not to. Generally the archive pages, search pages, date labeled pages will be no indexed to save the blog from getting hit by Google Panda. I have tried and experimented different versions of robots file for a blogger blog and found that the below code works the best. Just replace alltechbuzz.net with your blog url and it should work best.

User-agent: Mediapartners-Google Disallow:
User-agent: *
Disallow: /search
Allow: /
Sitemap: http://www.alltechbuzz.net/feeds/posts/default?orderby=UPDATED

5. Custom Robots Header Tags:
These tags function the same as robots.txt but these tags are inbuilt with blogger seo settings so you can make use of this. Firstly Enable this and follow the below settings.
